Tom DeLonge Calls Out Media for Suggesting He Quit Blink-182 to Research UFOs
Yesterday (June 21) we reported on an interview that Tom DeLonge gave about his interest in UFOs and the time he's spent studying the phenomenon, and while he was asked in the interview if he exited Blink-182 to devote more time to his research, DeLonge stated that it wasn't so much about Blink. However, some media outlets took that and ran with headlines about DeLonge leaving Blink to search for UFOs, something the musician felt the need to clarify.
In a new posting, DeLonge calls out the sensationalized headlines, but does add in his statement that he has been talking to drummer Travis Barker and reiterates that he never quit Blink-182. His statement reads as follows.
Quitting the band to search for UFOs? Hahhaha WTF is wrong with you media. I'm actually talking to Travis about us right now... Never did quit, remember? But- Am I currently working with people in the Government? YES. Including leadership from DOD, Intelligence and Executive Branch? YES. Just wait for the Documentary before considering ridiculous headlines. Haha.... #sekretmachines
DeLonge initially told Mic.com, “Well it’s not so much about Blink. It’s about what I’m doing with my life now. When you’re an individual like me, dealing with something that’s a national security issue, and you’re being gifted with the opportunity to communicate something you’ve been passionate about your whole life — something that has the opportunity to change the world over time — being a small part of that is enormously important for my life path. But I can’t do everything.”
He went on to add, “I don’t think I’m going to be the person that offers the best evidence unless people really trust what I’m doing and believe me. There’s been hundreds and hundreds of thousands of eyewitness accounts. Trace evidence that’s been analyzed by scientists across the world. Events have happened on the ground. It’s all around us. I know of stuff I can’t talk about right now.”
Earlier this year, DeLonge revealed that he had been in contact with Barker and that he felt closer to him now more than ever. As for a future with Blink-182, he added, "We do have a future together if we want it, but for now we are busy doing separate things." Meanwhile, Blink's other longtime member Mark Hoppus denied in an interview around the same time that there had been any meetings with DeLonge. He did state, "[Making music with Tom again] is so far down the road to even be a possibility. I'll never say never to anything, but this is what Blink-182 is right now."
As it stands, DeLonge has been involved in a wealth of projects over the past year including a movie, music and digging deeper into his Sekret Machines project. Meanwhile, Blink-182 with Matt Skiba helming the spot that DeLonge occupied are releasing their new album California on July 1, with a major summer tour on the books as well. Dates can be found here.
