Pastor Goes Missing In New Mexico Looking For Buried Treasure

A Colorado pastor has gone missing in Northern New Mexico while looking for the famous Forrest Fenn treasure. Paris Wallace is a pastor for Connection Church in Grand Junction, Colorado and was reported missing last week by his wife after he didn't meet up with someone Wednesday night. Police used tips from Wallace's friends and family to locate his Chevorlet Tahoe as well as a receipt for equipment he purchased for his search. Authorities said they also found a rope they believe belonged to Wallace tied to a rock, as well as his backpack floating downstream in the Rio Grande.

The Forrest Fenn treasure is a supposed a chest full of a million to two million dollars worth of gold, jewels, rare coins and more. Forrest Fenn is an author and art dealer from New Mexico who wanted people to get out and enjoy the beauty of New Mexico. He also had cancer and thought he was going to pass away. he decided to take some of his fortune, put it into a treasure chest and hide it somewhere in New Mexico. In his autobiography The Thrill Of The Chase, Fenn included a poem that had clues to the location of the treasure. Since then he also has released more clues to help people find the treasure.

Here is the poem from his book with hints as to the location of the treasure:

As I have gone alone in there

And with my treasures bold,

I can keep my secret where,

And hint of riches new and old.

Begin it where warm waters halt

And take it in the canyon down,

Not far, but too far to walk.

Put in below the home of Brown.

From there it’s no place for the meek,

The end is drawing ever nigh;

There’ll be no paddle up your creek,

Just heavy loads and water high.

If you’ve been wise and found the blaze,

Look quickly down, your quest to cease

But tarry scant with marvel gaze,

Just take the chest and go in peace.

So why is it that I must go

And leave my trove for all to seek?

The answers I already know

I’ve done it tired, and now I’m weak

So hear me all and listen good,

Your effort will be worth the cold.

If you are brave and in the wood

I give you title to the gold.
