Capitol Christmas Tree Will Be From New Mexico This Year

This year, the Land of Enchantment has the honor of having one of their trees chosen to be displayed on Capitol Hill this year. Find out where they're looking. Every year, one state has the honor of being chosen to work with the capitol and the U.S. Forest Service to choose a tree that meets all their requirements to be the Christmas tree on Capitol Hill. Currently, both parties are up in the Carson National Forest near Questa searching for the green giant they need. The tree should be about 70 feet tall and according to KRQE, officials haven't been able to find the right tree yet.

Some of the guidelines of what the tree should look like? Here's what the Jim Kaufmann, Director of Capitol Grounds and Arboretum had to say about what they're looking for:

“We’re selecting the 2019 US Capitol Christmas tree. I was really hoping the Forest Service was going to make my job easy, but they did not do that. They’ve made my job pretty difficult. They’ve shown me quite a number of really good candidates. It has to be straight because behind the Christmas tree will be at the Washington Monument."

While they have plenty of lush trees to choose from, there is one type of tree Kaufmann says won't make the cut.
