Bush Team With UN Refugee Agency for ‘People At War’ Video

Bush are back with new music and some impactful music at that. The band has just issued a video for the new song "People At War," which was inspired the plight of refugees around the world and is part of a campaign by the band aimed at stopping the violence, persecution and death that many refugees face.

The video for the song, which was released today (June 20) via People.com and backed by the UN Refugee Agency as part of World Refugee's Day, was directed by Jesse Davey and produced by Matt Phelan and is an equally powerful visually. The clip opens with the statement, "65 million people around the world have been forced to flee their homes because of conflict and persecution." The words play out of a backdrop of waves crashing on a darkened beach.

Singer Gavin Rossdale says, “Having seen the footage of innocent refugees forced to flee their homes and lives, culminating in the picture of the young boy, Aylan Kurdi, lying dead on the shore –- the horror of that photograph, as a father, as a human being –- was too powerful to avoid. It was the catalyst to write this song and to show empathy with the plight of the refugees."

The video not only shows the band playing the somber, haunting track, but also features both band members and the refugee characters in the clip seemingly being shot using special effects. There is also real footage of tent villages, people loading onto rafts and giant fishing boats and more driving home the plight of many refugees.

The band has also launched a #WithRefugees petition to ensure that every refugee child gets an education, that every refugee family has somewhere safe to live and to ensure that every refugee can work or learn new skills to make a positive contribution to their community. You can sign the petition at this location. It will be delivered to the UN headquarters in New York ahead of the UN General Assembly on Sept. 19.
