It remains unlikely that Jack Bauer will lever hand off the 24: Legacy in person, but the new FOX reboot is nonetheless trotting out some very familiar faces. See Tony Almeida’s return in a fresh trailer for 24: Legacy, ahead of its post-Super Bowl premiere.

Straight out of FOX’s TCA press tour panel, 24: Legacy debuted a new full-length trailer for the new series, featuring the return of Carlos Bernard’s Tony Almeida, now a goateed prisoner. The panel itself went in with a bit more depth as to why Almeida was chosen to return, rather than someone more recognizable like Chloe, as executive producers Manny Coto and Evan Katz told TVLine:

Coto: The way we left him is dark and ambiguous place — so it had to be [him] … We love the character and we loved [Bernard] so much we added that scene in the DVD. It felt right that he was the one person who comes back. […]

Katz: Once we decided to bring Tony back, with only 12 episodes, to bring other [veteran] characters back as well throws the balance off. We want viewers to build relationships with these [new] people and not think about the past. Chloe could come back in a future season. We love the character.

The first installment will debut Super Bowl Sunday, February 5, immediately after the game, while so reads the synopsis:

24: Legacy follows a military hero’s return to the U.S. and the trouble that follows him back — compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil. Told in real time with split screens, each episode will represent one hour of an eventful day.

In addition to Corey Hawkins in the lead role, the new Sutherland-produced series stars, Miranda Otto, Anna Diop, Teddy Sears, Jimmy Smits, Dan Bucatinsky, Coral Pena, and Charlie Hofheimer.
