Miley Cyrus Singing NIN’s ‘Head Like a Hole’ Is Actually Good
I think we can officially say that 2019 is the year of Nine Inch Nails. While they haven't released any new music, they've been catapulted into the spotlight. Earlier this year, Captain Marvel teamed up with Nine Inch Nails to release a limited edition shirt like the one Brie Larson wears in the film.
Shortly after, we heard the country song heard 'round the world, "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, which samples Nine Inch Nails' "34 Ghosts IV." Then, Black Mirror released an episode with Miley Cyrus sampling and eventually covering "Head Like a Hole." It's almost as if Black Mirror predicted Nine Inch Nails' music would be sampled in everything in the future.
Full disclosure, I love Nine Inch Nails, not just their music but I'm a big fan of Trent Reznor. I'm also a big fan of Miley Cyrus. Say what you want about her, but she can sing. I think she's proven that before, but I was especially surprised to hear her on the Black Mirror episode "Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too." She sang a poppy version of it as her character "Ashley O" and it surprisingly is a hit. I cannot stop listening to it! At the end of the episode she covers the full song and, you know what, it's not bad at all!
Miley Cyrus proved that the song isn't dying down anytime soon when she came out and performed both "On a Roll" from Ashley O and "Head Like a Hole" from NIN at Glastonbury Festival this past weekend. The rocker look and sound really seem to compliment her.
I ain't mad at it. This is the first time that Cyrus has performed both the Black Mirror hit and the Pretty Hate Machine classic live. And if that wasn't enough Nine Inch Nails for you, shortly after, Cyrus invited special guests Lil Nas X and her father to perform the hit song "Old Town Road."
More Nine Inch Nails, please!
