I Have Become The Woman Who Blasts Music to Clean on Saturday’s
A recent survey by OnePoll found that 66% of American's listen to music while they clean. That survey also found the top songs American's listen to. The top five are:
• “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars
• “Read All About It” by Emeli Sandé
• “Work” by Rihanna
• “All of Me” by John Legend
• “But a Dream” by G-Eazy
I don't know about you but these songs are definitely not the songs I listen to when cleaning. And that's when it hit me, I've become my mother!
I think we have all been victim of this scenario: It's Saturday morning, you're attempting to sleep in when all of a sudden, you hear it, the speakers in the living room start blasting cumbias. The boom fully wakes you from your sleep cycle and you KNOW in that instant that you'll be spending the rest of the morning cleaning.
We're not just talking about picking up, we're talking about doing a deep thorough cleaning. Your mom will make you move around the furniture to clean behind it, and also to rearrange it because your mom gets bored and wants the living room to look different. You'll likely use old t-shirts to clean up tables and mantles. You'll probably make deals with your siblings to see who has to clean up the bathroom. And you'll probably hear one of the following songs.
In my house, because we live on the border, it was a mixture of these great Spanish songs that I have grown to love, and some of my mom's favorites like Donna Summer, The Bee Gees and some George Strait.
Now, that woman blasting music to wake up her family on Saturday morning to clean, is me. Of course, my choice of music ranges from Ghost to Linkin Park to some of the classic cumbias from above. It's come full circle.
