Bill to Ban Texting While Driving in Texas Heads to Senate Floor
Need some statistics to prove you should put your f***ing phone down while you're driving? Here you go:
- 9 Americans are killed every day because of distracted driving.
- 40% of teens say they've been the passenger in a car where the driver using their phone put them directly in danger.
- You are 4 TIMES more likely to be in an accident if you're using your phone while driving.
- Drivers take their eyes off the road for an average of 5 SECONDS when checking texts.
If you somehow still need another reason to not text and drive here in the state of Texas, well, it's close to becoming illegal. One of the bigger hurdles with House Bill 62, it that there are Senators who want it to be clearly stated that this law would supersede any city regulations in regards to texting while driving.
Most Texans do support a ban on texting while driving, but the ban isn't a lock to make it to the Senate floor. Whether or not the ban happens, please, put your f***ing phone down while you're on the road. It can wait.
