Why Your San Angelo Street May be Closed Starting April 25th.
Get ready for the deployment of construction barrels. San Angelo's Great "HA5 Street Repair Event" begins on Monday, April 25th and will last through Tuesday, May 3rd pending any delays. According to the City of San Angelo's website, you should have already received a flyer if your street is on the list of streets to be closed for 24 hours. (Even though the flyer incorrectly states that your street will be closed for 18 days once the HA5 is applied).
If you want to be notified about road closures via text message, just text "PRESERVATION" to 77222.
What is HA5. It is a surface treatment that limits oxidative damage to asphalt caused by moisture and ultraviolet radiation. The City claims the benefits of HA5 are "considerable" The City Website claims "Streets treated with HA5 vs. sealcoat are cleaner, quieter, smoother and maintain their aesthetic black color for up to 8 years on average."
Those of us with sports cars also notice another "benefit" of HA5--Spinouts. You have to be very careful footed n the accelerator or your car will slide. Don't be too impressed with your engine. We've seen cargo vans spin out.
There is one big drawback to the HA5 application process. Once it is applied, your street cannot be driven on for at least 24 hours. Roads in the application zone will close at 7am and vehicles won't be allowed back on the streets, until the next day at 730am. Fortunately, the construction company will offer shuttle services to carry residents from their vehicle to their homes if necessary.
Residents in the area where the HA5 application is being applied are reminded that their FEDEX and UPS packages will be delivered as scheduled. Emergency vehicles will be able to access any home in the neighborhood at any time during the application process. Trash pickup will occur as scheduled.
The city also asks that residents hold off on new landscaping and leave sprinklers OFF during the application.
