A boil water advisory is a big deal. And it's something we've dealt with a lot this winter in San Angelo.

As someone who never had to do this before, I looking up what you can and can't do with your water during this time.

According to the CDC:

If your local health authorities issue a boil water advisory, you should use bottled water or boil tap water because your community’s water is, or could be, contaminated with germs that can make you sick.

First and foremost, if you have access to use bottled water, USE THAT. Do not use tap water if you do not have to.

Now if you do not have bottled water available, bring tap water to a FULL BOIL for 1 minute even if that water is filtered.

During boiled water advisory, you CAN:

-Use tap water to wash your hands, it is fine.

-Shower/bathe, just be sure not to swallow any water.

-Wash your clothes

-Water plants

During boiled water advisory, you need to boil water when:

-Washing dishes

-Brushing teeth

-Giving it to pets. (boil it, cool it down, then serve)

-Cleaning surfaces, toys, etc.

It is also recommended to give babies and small children sponge baths as to prevent them from accidentally drinking the water.

Also, you should boil your water before turning them into ice cubes. DO NOT use ice cubes that come from your refrigerator.

It really would have been really nice to know that this whole time I could've been washing my clothes....
