The Used, Circa Survive Members Cover Nirvana With Solo Twist
Those in attendance at Emo Nite on April 5 got a surprise when The Used singer Bert McCracken and guitarist Joey Bradford welcomed Circa Survive frontman Anthony Green to the stage for a collaborative cover of Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box." Now, pro-shot footage of the performance has surfaced and can be seen below.
The vibe in the room was a lot looser than a typical show and after McCracken's introduction, Green's arrival to the stage was met with overwhelming screams from the crowd. Green prefaced the cover, noting the 25th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death as well as the coming performance marking the first time he's sang together with The Used's frontman.
The two frontman sing mostly in unison as Green comes dangerously close to the gritty, nervous tone Cobain was such a master at conveying. Since Bradford was the only instrumentalist onstage, McCracken called upon the crowd to help out with the brief solo, imploring them to make the guitar sounds with their voice instead. The result was a light-hearted break in the agonizing tension of "Heart-Shaped Box."
The Used and Circa Survive will hit the road together later this year as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Disrupt Festival. The fest will criss-cross the United States between June 21 and July 28. The see full list of stops as well as the rest of the lineup below.
