The Melvins to Play Prior to Noise Pop Screening of ‘The Colossus of Destiny…’ Documentary
The Melvins have had a long and storied career, which has been captured in the documentary The Colossus of Destiny: A Melvin's Tale. It debuted last year and will have its Bay Area premiere this Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco as part of the Noise Pop Festival. Watch a trailer above.
The Melvins will be doing a semi-acoustic performance prior to the screening, which also includes a Q&A with the band and filmmakers Bob Hannam and Ryan Sutherby. For ticket information, go here.
Hannam says, “I always thought it was strange that people didn't know more about The Melvins and I felt their story needed to be told. The band members had told me that a few people had talked the talk but had never followed up on their threats to make a film about them, so a little over two years ago things really fell into place and now the end product is finished for all to see. It has been a long labor of love for the both of us and we are excited for people to see the film and understand the workings of a truly great band.”
The documentary goes all the way back to the early days of The Melvins and features rare footage from that era, and also covers the rest of their lengthy career. It includes interviews with Mike Patton, Chris Cornell, Jello Biafra, Gene Simmons, Krist Novoselic, Josh Homme and many others.
