'The Needle and the Damage' done is a tattoo series produced by Loudwire and presented by the Inkcarceration Music and Tattoo Festival. Each episode was shot on site at the festival's location in Mansfield, Ohio, at the Ohio State Reformatory, which is also where scenes from the 'Shawshank Redemption' were filmed. Here, artists reflect on the artwork scrawled into their flesh, recollecting their first tattoos, the most painful ones, deeper meanings and, of course, the stories behind them allEnjoy while you anxiously await the announcement of next year's lineup. Keep an eye out because tickets go on sale in December!

Episode 13 of The Needle and the Damage Done features Taking Back Sunday singer and lead microphone-spinner Adam Lazzara, whose tattoos are a mix or stunning artwork bearing intense personal meaning and some more lighthearted ones based on music and a favorite fiction novel series.

First, he shows off the main pieces occupying his arms, starting with the magnolia flower on his left forearm. "I was born in Alabama and my family moved away from there, but I still spent every summer there because my dad was convinced I'd get into too much trouble if I stayed at home with all that time on my hands — he was right," Lazarra explained. Living with his grandmother during these summer months, he'd see magnolia trees, which he described as "great for climbing" and now the tattoo reminds him of his grandmother and those times growing up whenever he looks at it.

Meanwhile, the singer's right arm is a tribute to his grandfather with an anchor being the centerpiece as a memento to his family of ship builders.

Then comes a set of crude, self-done tattoos around his ankle, one of which was inspired by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, the first band he ever taped a song from off the radio. Redeeming these tattoos is the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban piece, which he got done after reading the exhaustive seven-novel series in an eight-week span on tour.
