Slipknot’s Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan Gets Theatrical Release Date for ‘Officer Downe’ Film
We previously reported on Slipknot percussionist Shawn 'Clown' Crahan making his feature film directing debut with Officer Downe and the wait for the film is finally coming to an end! The flick has made its way to various screenings in recent months and now fans can file into theaters on Nov. 18 to see the tale of the police officer who repeatedly comes back to life after dying in the line of duty.
As Variety reported, Magnet Releasing (a branch of Magnolia Pictures) has secured the rights to the sci-fi / action movie which was adapted from the graphic novel of the same name by authors Joey Casey and Chris Burnham. A clip surfaced online after debuting at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 3, depicting Officer Downe (played by Sons of Anarchy's Kim Coates) perusing a jaw-unhinging weapons arsenal moments after being ineffectively killed.
When discussing Officer Downe with Full Metal Jackie, Clown compared directing the film to being a touring musician and how "in Slipknot, it’s 22 hours of hell, all day long and two hours of God." As for his gratification as a director, he said, "Now, making movies, my satisfaction is only at the moment of reviewing what I just shot. So, you can imagine, I work with the actor, I work with the seamstress or wardrobe person, I work with the set designer. Then there’s the cameramen, the lenses, the lights. There’s the technique we’re going to shoot. There’s all this stuff happening and then there’s action, then you get it. I watch it back and when I’ve received exactly what I wanted and I can see we’re moving on, that’s my satisfaction right there."
Splitting his energy between the movie and music, the summer has been all Slipknot as the band recently completed a co-headlining tour with Marilyn Manson. Next up for the masked troupe is a headlining Sunday (Sept. 25) slot at Ozzfest Meets Knotfest where they'll perform their massively influential and sonically devastating Iowa record in its entirety.
