Slayer Have Sold Over $10 Million of Merch on Farewell Tour
Since kicking off their farewell tour on March 10, 2018, thrash legends Slayer have sold $10 million of merchandise — and they've still got one final tour leg left to go.
The figure comes from a report by music industry trade magazine Pollstar, who reported that Slayer's management, Rick Sales Entertainment Group, confirmed this number with them. Perhaps, the reason why fans are flocking to snatch up all this merch is because who knows what a Slayer fan wants more than the band's principle members — Tom Araya and Kerry King?
"They're very focused on the quality of the products, between Tom and Kerry, and very into the design and development," said Barry Drinkwater, who works with the band's management on merch and product partnerships. "We have a lot of input from them – how they want the graphics, everything from the color and depth of the saturation. It’s great to have so much involvement from the artists themselves," he added.
While the farewell tour has obviously been everyone's most immediate focus, there's just as much emphasis being placed on post-retirement Slayer. "We’re in legacy mode, which is a lot to do, even though they won’t be making records or on the road," said Rick Sales Entertainment Group's Kristen Mulderig.
"They still have their endorsers, there’s still merch and branding to do – sync licenses and who knows? Maybe coming up with some sort of event that is Slayer-based. This is all stuff we’re thinking about and talking about. Slayer lives on, absolutely," she went on, looking forward to keeping the band's name very much alive.
Slayer's last tour leg begins on Nov. 2 and will be their last ever string of shows. For the complete list of upcoming dates, look below. By the end of the run, Slayer will have played nearly 150 farewell shows around the globe.
