Scott Weiland Reportedly Owed Almost 1 Million Dollars in Taxes to the IRS
Late Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland reportedly owed over $800,000 in unpaid taxes to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) when he died in 2015. The revelation was made this week by The Blast when a tax lien was brought against the musician's estate, at time when many are busy filing their last-minute returns.
Mary Weiland, the founding Stone Temple Pilots vocalist's ex-wife, was listed on the lien as his representative, according to documents obtained by the celebrity news outlet that showed Scott Weiland owes $818,569.62.
That's because Weiland purportedly didn't pay his federal income taxes from 2012 until 2014. That's on top the nearly $250,000 in back taxes levied against the singer's estate by the California State Tax Franchise Board last year.
More than three years ago, Weiland was found dead on his tour bus from an apparent drug overdose, which was later confirmed by a toxicology report. At the time time, the musician — who was also lead vocalist of Velvet Revolver from 2003 to 2008— was on tour with his solo outfit, Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts.
