The San Angelo Rodeo Association is proud to announce that the annual Championship Bar-b-que Cook-off is on for Saturday, April 10th, 2021 and the deadline for entering is fast approaching!

The Championship Cook-Off has been a very popular event which started in 2010 and is sponsored by the San Angelo Restaurant Association. You can check out all of the teams and pit areas at the South end of the 1st Community Federal Credit Union Spur Arena. You'll find it tucked between the Spur Arena and the old horse barn. You can easily find it by following your nose while the cooking is going on.

Although these cooking teams are doing their best to help raise scholarship money for our youth, they are serious when it comes to their Bar-B-Que and a passion for winning in their categories.

The way it works is that any cooking team of four people can enter the competition with one individual being designated as the Head or Chief Cook.

Only one entry may be submitted for judging by each team in each division in which they are competing and there are a number of divisions including Beef Brisket, Pork Spare Ribs and Chicken. You also have a specialty category....Jalapeno Poppers. This category is just for bragging rights as being named this year's "San Angelo King Popper". It doesn't count in the point totals.

The four person team that wins each division are awarded some really nice belt buckles that carry a lot of prestige for the winners. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion plaques are awarded to the sponsors of the winners.

If you want to get your team into the competition, it's time to get signed up because the deadline for entries and payment must be submitted by March 31st. The entry fee is $400 per team. Anyone interested in signing up with a cooking team can call 325-653-7785 or e-mail Brittni@sanangelorodeo.com. Remember, the deadline to enter is March 31st.

Here's one of the best things about the Cook-Off! Anyone on the fairgrounds can wonder over to the cooking area and sample some of that delicious Bar-B-Que from the various teams. Even though it's not required, be sure to put something in the tip jars that are set up at each team's pit area. All donations benefit the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo Foundation fund plus the team that collects the most donations will get free entry into the Cook-Off next year.

Good luck to all of the competing teams and I encourage everyone to get to the cooking area and sample some delicious Bar-B-Que.
