Everyone knows it's windy in West Texas. Ok, who caught that Association reference? Anybody?
At any rate, we do know it gets windy out here in San Angelo and in the surrounding areas.
Well, the web site usa.com ranked the cities in Texas by average wind speed and quite a few cities here and around the Concho Valley were included near the top of the list.
Water Valley came in at number ten on the list with an average wind speed of 21.77 mph.
Moving up the list, Grape Creek cracked the top ten coming in with an average wind speed of 21.96 mph.
At number 4 was Bronte where the average wind speed was measured at 22.93 mph.
And topping the list of the windiest cities of Texas was Robert Lee. The average wind speed in Robert Lee was measured at 23.17 mph.
If you're wondering where San Angelo ended up on the list, well we landed just outside the top ten with an average wind speed of 21.72 mph.
If you look at the map on the usa.com website, you see a huge cluster of cities and towns that are considered the windiest right in the West Central part of the state where we live.
Some people think that a little wind won't hurt anybody but like comedian Ron White says, it's not "that the wind is blowing, it's what the wind is blowing."
