Mister Rogers’ Timeless Advice in the Age of Mass Murder
Las Vegas native Jimmy Kimmel began his show Monday night by showing the clip at the bottom of this post.
If, in the wake of a national tragedy, you find yourself crossing your fingers, hoping that the perpetrator is "one of those", your probably doing "being a human being" all wrong. The "one of those" could be any of a long list of "others" that we seek to blame for everything we perceive to be wrong. "White male", "Muslim", "Immigrant", "Trump-supporter", "Trump-hater". If you find yourself hoping that the latest asshole-in-the-news turns out to be a certain kind of person just so it fits your world narrative or will help you score points on message-boards...you should spend sometime in front of a mirror doing some real soul-searching.
The video Kimmel opened his show with was an old clip from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. Fred Rogers always gave the best advice. If you've been having a hard time finding anything to feel positive about this week, maybe this will help. Also, think about NOT going on-line and saying asinine things. I've checked. They've all already been said.
