You probably guessed Dr Pepper, huh? The 'Doc did really well nationally and our neighbors in New Mexico voted it best but Texas, (shockingly), went a different way.

Dr Pepper ... do NOT put a period after Dr ... is practically the official soda of Texas. It was invented here, (the original bottling plant in Texas still uses real sugar) and it goes great with bbq. (You can even make bbq sauce with it.)

Oddly enough though, it didn't get the #1 spot in Texas according to this poll.

First of all, screw this poll ... Dr Pepper is #1 with me. In fact, with the exception of coke slurpees, it's the only soda I'll drink. (Unless I'm elsewhere in Texas where I can get my hands on a Mr. Pibb.)  DP RAWKS.

What Soda Was #1 In Texas?

Nonetheless, a recent survey by allrecipes.com says Texans like Coca Cola better.  Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Louisiana, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Indiana and Nevada also names Coke their favorite making it the #1 brand nationwide.

Who Loves Dr Pepper?

Dr Pepper did pretty good though, coming in 2nd nationally with 9 states ... Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, West Virginia, Idaho, Alaska ... naming it numero uno.

The rest of the top 10 were Sprite with 6 states, Pepsi won 4 states, Mountain Dew was best in 4 states, Fanta got 3, Canada Dry got 2 and Kool Aid, scored 2. (Attn: N. and S. Dakota, Kool Aid's NOT a soda.) A & W and 7Up, along with the rest of the list, tied at 1.
