Powerball Is At 1.09 Billion! Curious If You Can Use Debit Card To Buy Tickets?

The POWERBALL is making a lot of noise again! When doesn't the POWERBALL make some noise?  The next drawing is April 3, 2024, and it's at a 1.4 billion! Whoa! Well, here we go again with another HUGE jackpot on the line. So, I was asked to pick up some POWERBALL tickets on the way home today. But, I realized I don't have cash on me. Wait? Do I need cash to buy a POWERBALL ticket or tickets? I've got a debit card. Will they take that?

My first thought was that you needed cash to buy any kind of lotto ticket, scratch-off, or Powerball ticket. But, I was wrong! According to The Texas Lottery website...

Retailers can accept a debit card for payment.

 

• YES, RETAILERS CAN ACCEPT DEBIT CARDS TO PURCHASE LOTTERY TICKETS!

If the retailer you go to chooses to, they can ACCEPT debit cards to buy Powerball tickets! As long as your card is DEBIT, they can accept it towards the purchase of lottery tickets!

• WHAT WILL RETAILERS NOT ACCEPT TO PURCHASE LOTTERY TICKETS? 

According to the official Texas Lottery Website...

The State Lottery Act prohibits the purchase of tickets by credit or with Food Stamps. Retailers, at their own discretion, may accept a check for tickets.

So NO retailers WILL NOT accept Credit Cards or Food Stamps to purchase lottery tickets. It's interesting that some retailers MIGHT accept CHECKS. It is up to that retailer if they choose to accept checks.
