Paw-litical Debate: Is Texas Banning Furries in Schools? We Break Down the Bill

Texas keeps outdoing itself and here is another thing I did not see on my bingo card for 2025.

First Texas wanted to change the New York Strip to the Texas Strip and now a bill has been filed aiming at furries.

What is a furry?

Before we get into this new proposed bill, let's explain what a furry is. It is a person who identifies with and enjoys dressing as animals or creatures with human traits.

It's a group of people who like to dress up in human-sized animal costumes.

The F.U.R.R.I.E.S Act

The F.U.R.R.I.E.S ACT stands for Forbidding Unlawful Representation of Roleplaying in Education.

Bill HB 4814 was filed by Republican State Rep. Stan Gerdes, and it would ban any non-human behavior by students. This means any student can not act or identify as anything other than a human in Texas Schools.

The Consequences

If a student is caught in non-human behavior, the school will be able to punish the student in many ways. Here are some of them:

• A student may be removed from any classroom or school.
• Transfer a student to a disciplenary alternative school.
• The student may be suspended or expelled.
• Tell a parent about the student's conduct

Some days and events may be overlooked, such as Halloween and spirit week at school.

A hearing has not been set for the bill.
