How to Dispose of Your Christmas Tree Responsibly in the Permian Basin
Are you like me and still have your live Christmas tree up?
During this time of year, it can be tough to get your bearings straight. If you are anything like me, you probably are having a hard time knowing what day it is let alone the time. With time getting away from most of us, your live Christmas tree is probably one of the last of your worries
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU KEEP YOUR REAL CHRISTMAS TREE TOO LONG?
I am the first to understand that we get busy and forget things like throwing out our real Christmas tree, but it could be a hazard if we wait too long. Warm indoor weather is the enemy of a live Christmas tree. It will start to dry out and cause needles to fall out. With your tree drying out and all the loose needles, it can become a fire hazard.
HOW TO GET RID OF YOUR TREE RESPONSIBLY
If you are worried about where to drop off your tree or how much it will be, Midland and Odessa have free drop-off places for West Texans. The City of Odessa will recycle the trees into mulch and then offer it to the citizens for free. The city wants to promote landscaping projects while cutting waste. In Odessa, you can take your real Christmas tree to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility on 814 West 42nd Street.
Midlanders can drop off their real Christmas Trees at two locations. Residents can take the trees to Hogan Park, behind the Armory on Lamesa Road, between Field 7 and Bill Williams Softball Complex. Another location is the Citizens Collection Station, located at 4100 Smith Road.
Make sure to remove all light and decorations before taking your tree to be disposed of.
