It appears a lot of spring breakers wanted to do something sweet in Waco for Spring Break.

Record Visitor Numbers at the Dr. Pepper Museum

Tons of people were on I35 last weekend, and it looks like many of them stopped off at the Dr. Pepper Museum in Waco. According to KWTX, The Dr Pepper Museum set a new single-day paid attendance record last Saturday. Museum officials say 2,378 guests visited the museum, beating the previous record set on March 15th of last year.

Spring Break Traffic Increases Attendance Numbers

Officials told KWTX that the museum has seen year-over-year increases in attendance since 2020. These are not just visitors from Texans. The museum says visitors arrive from other states and other countries. The Dr Pepper Museum is the Original Home of Dr Pepper.

The "Out-of-the-Ordinary" History of Dr Pepper

Long before it was a global household name, Dr Pepper was a "native Texan" born from the curiosity of a young pharmacist in Waco. Originating at Morrison’s Old Corner Drug Store, Dr Pepper has the honor of being the oldest major brand soft drink in America. Its creation is as unique as its 23-flavor blend, tracing back to Charles Alderton, a man who spent his days mixing medicine but his spare time perfecting the soda fountain experience.

A Scent Turned into a Sip

Alderton was fascinated by the way the drug store smelled. He began work on capturing the  rich, sweet aroma of various fruit syrups in a glass. After documenting numerous experiments in his journal, he finally hit upon a mixture that worked. He first shared the creation with the store owner, Morrison, and after both men approved, they began serving it to customers. Customers quickly fell in love with the drink, originally ordering it by simply asking for a “Waco.”

A World Stage and Iconic Slogans

Dr Pepper’s national breakthrough occurred at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, where it was introduced to nearly 20 million people alongside other debuts like the hamburger bun and the ice cream cone. Over the decades, the brand became famous for its marketing savvy. Whether it's the "Be a Pepper" campaign of the 70s or the modern emphasis on its 23 unique flavors with "There’s just more to it," Dr Pepper remains the most original soft drink in the world.
