Here we are, and winter is finally rearing its ugly head all across Texas. We just thought we were getting away with a mild winter, and now it is just about to explode all over Texas.

Statewide Storm Timing And Impact

This artic blast is heading our way and isn't leaving any parts of Texas behind. The storm is expected to move into Texas on Friday afternoon, January 23, and last through Sunday, January 25, as it continues to move through the state.

Regional Forecast Breakdown

  • The Texas Panhandle is expected to get 5-10 inches of snow with extremely cold temperatures
  • North Texas is expected to see a mix of snow and ice with 2+ inches of accumulation.
  • Central Texas will see some freezing rain and sleet with some slight snow
  • West Texas is expected to get some freezing rain, sleet, and light snow.
  • Southeast Texas and the Gulf Coast are expected to bring a hard freeze and a wintry mix of sleet and rain.

This storm is expected to be ugly, and Governor Abbott released State Emergency Response Resources

“Based on current forecasts, the State of Texas is acting to ensure Texans have the resources they need before severe winter weather impacts communities across Texas,” said Governor Abbott.

The last time we had a forecast like this, the entire state saw snow and freezing temperatures. This was the year that ERCOT failed, and many in Texas were left without power in the dangerous cold temperatures.
