Ireland’s H&MV Engineering Acquires Amarillo’s Cooke Power Services
Amarillo is full of businesses that you might not even know exist. Many businesses are based in the trades world and branch out all over the country and the world.
The Amarillo business world just had something big occur, and it's a very large sign that the rest of the world is paying attention to the Texas Panhandle. Amarillo is experiencing a growth spurt, and with the addition of a new data center coming to the area, major companies are taking notice.
One of those major companies is a business based in Ireland. Yes, that Ireland. H&MV Engineering is a global power company whose home base is in Limerick, Ireland. They specialize in high-voltage electrical engineering services. They have recently set up their U.S. Headquarters in Dallas, Texas. With that setup, they have acquired Amarillo's very own Cooke Power Services.
Why Ireland is Betting Big on the Texas Panhandle
According to Cooke Power Services, the company was established in Amarillo in 2001 and is a fully integrated electric services provider. They provide high-voltage electrical services, specializing in substation construction, testing, and maintenance.
The 345,000 Volt Secret Behind Amarillo Data Centers
According to H&MV Engineering, they are currently working on projects all across the US that range from 138 kV to 345 kV. To put that in perspective, your normal outlet in your home in Wolflin, Tradewinds, etc., is 120 volts.
Your washer/dryer or oven is 240v. This company is working with 138,000 volts to 345,000 volts. A local windfarm would be 138,000 volts, while a massive data center would be 345kV.

H&MV Engineering isn't just buying a local company and shutting it down; they are keeping that local expertise intact. The CEO of Cooke Power, Paul Cooke, and his team are staying local and bringing that Amarillo flavor to H&MV Engineering.
