8 Things Happening Across East Texas This Weekend – August 29
(East Texas) East Texans are looking for relief from the brutal Texas sun along with something different to do this weekend. While this isn't typically the season for a lot of outdoor weekend events, there are some things to do throughout the Piney Woods this weekend that will educate, inspire, entertain, challenge, and help keep your mind and body in shape.
Thankfully, current forecasts indicate the extreme heat alerts should be over before the weekend, although temperatures are still expected to reach the upper 90s as widespread triple digits are not expected at this time.
Still, drink plenty of water, seek shade, and wear your sunscreen if you're going to be doing anything outdoors this weekend. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke can suddenly appear.

Overdose Awareness 5k - Strides To Save

To honor International Overdose Awareness Day, Dr. Ash Wellness Club is hosting a 5k run/walk to bring awareness to this community issue. Proceeds will be used to improve community access to life saving resources. Whether you’re a committed runner or a caring community member, we would love to see you there! To honor Overdose Awareness Day, we encourage attendees to wear purple. Race finishers will receive a 5k finisher medal. There is a registration fee to participate in the event.
Vettes For Vets Texas Car Show

205 Cannery Row - Lindale
This is a Corvette and full class car show that will raise money to help remodel a local veterans home. Cars will be judged. There is a registration fee to participate, but the event is free to attend with donations being accepted.
Pines For A Cure
Saturday 10a-2p
1123 Jaycee Dr - Longview
This is a car, bike and truck show benefiting the Rylan Strong Network, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting families with children battling a childhood cancer. There will be live music, vendor booths, a live auction, and amazing food. The event is free to attend, but there is a registration fee for the car show and donations will be accepted.

Piney Woods Comic Con

The Piney Woods Comic Con invites you to enjoy everything pop culture at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center. Shop from any of the vendors or bring your own memorabilia and get photos and autographs from the star-studded celebrity line-up.
