Massive Dallas Cowboys Fan Denzel Washington Sick of Jerry Jones
Denzel, like many Cowboys fans, not the biggest fan of the current direction of the Dallas Cowboys.
This week, Netflix officially premiered their new sports documentary. 'America's Team: The Gambler and his Cowboys'. The rest of us will get to watch it on August 19th, but a special premiere took place at the Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles on Monday. Of course with any premiere, a red carpet happened and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is once again making headlines.
Jerry Jones Comments on Dallas Cowboys Drama
It's not the first time that Jerry Jones has called the Dallas Cowboys organization a soap opera. In fact, it was in the trailer for the Netflix show. However, Jerry admits on the red carpet to doing his part in keeping the Dallas Cowboys in the spotlight. He believes controversy is a good thing and some fans are not too happy with Jerry this week.
Denzel Washington on the State of the Dallas Cowboys
The day after this red carpet. Denzel Washington was on First Take, he's been a fan of the Dallas Cowboys long before Jerry Jones owned the team. Back in the days of Landry and Staubach, Denzel Washington was rocking his Dallas Cowboys hat. Looks like Denzel is like the majority of us Dallas Cowboys fans, pissed off and wanting changes in leadership.
Jerry Jones Has Been the Dallas Cowboys GM Since 1989
Back in 1989, Jerry Jones became the first owner to ever pay over 100 million dollars for a sports franchise. He purchased the Dallas Cowboys for 140 million dollars, while being worth only 90 million dollars at the time, according to reports. He paid 77 million of his own money and paid the rest off using a loan. No one officially knows when that loan was paid off, but it was sometime around the Dallas Cowboys second Super Bowl of the 90's. Jerry famously let head coach Jimmy Johnson go in March of 1994, after the second Super Bowl saying, 'any coach could have led the Cowboys to a Super Bowl.'
Many reports say that after that loan was paid off, Jerry became more involved with the general manager role at the team. Jimmy was the one that built the Cowboys by trading away the team's only Pro Bowl player in 1989. He got picks and a bunch of players with this move. Jimmy had no intention to use these players, so he would get draft compensation for them. So he cut or traded them away to get more picks. This move that Jimmy Johnson pulled off, not Jerry Jones, built that Dallas Cowboys dynasty of the 90's.
The Netflix documentary is out this Tuesday. We will wait and see how much it shows Jerry Jones giving Jimmy Johnson credit for building those 90's teams.
