Dave Portnoy Returns to Texas to Review Pizza One Bite at a Time
'One bite everybody knows the rules'.
The owner of Barstool Sports is known for many things, but to a vast number of people. He's simply known as the pizza guy. He's been reviewing pizza shops across the world for years now. A good Dave Portnoy score can change your business over night. Anything above a 8.1 is a must try and if your score gets into the 9.1 and over range. You will have lines out the door. Let's see what Dave thinks of pizza in San Antonio after his most recent trip for The Final Four.
Florio's Pizza Inc - 6.7
We will start with the worst and work our way to the best. The lowest score on Dave's most recent Texas trip goes to Florio's. Dave likes his pizzas a little more done than that and gives a below average score for this one.
Royal Pizza - 6.8
This San Antonio spot gives their pizzas a little more time in the oven. However, the cheese on this one Dave is not a fan of. Plus their Greg Popovich mural didn't give them extra points in Dave's book.
Mattenga's Pizzeria - 7.1
Here's an example of Dave giving a place bonus points if it's a family run business. Dave loves the stories about generations of people coming together to make pizza. Grandma helped make this pizza in the back and Dave can't let grandma get below a 7.
Barbaro - 7.7
Looks like Dave's pizza might have been a little cold for this one. If it was warmer, who knows if that score goes into the must try 8.1 plus range. Still 7.7 is decent enough to get people to come try it.
Lover's Pizzeria - 8.1
If you're looking for pizza to try in San Antonio. These next two are the ones that get that must try score. Dave only eats cheese pizza when he does these reviews and gives them a 8.1. They also wanted him to try their famous poblano pizza. Dave is kind and says he sees how people may like it, but he's not one of those people. Plus, they gave him some garlic bread to review. He loves that, giving it a 8.8 score.
Leo's Hideout - 8.1
If you like pizza and sports. This place is for you. Random sports memorabilia from every team all over the place. Dave admits this place wasn't on their list of recommendations to try, but since it was so close to their hotel they gave it a shot. Turned out to be one of the best pizzas on his trip.
We will have to wait and see Dave Portnoy the next time a major sports event is happening in Texas.
