Texas Firefighters Wish You Would Stop Calling Them For This One Thing
Texas firefighters and EMS are heroes in every way. Many of them, when they aren't risking their lives for us, go to other places to put out fires.
Their bravery and dedication to the skill of fighting fires and saving lives are something that we should commend. Many of my family members are or were firefighters, EMS, and nurses.

I know what they go through, but I have no idea what it would be like to do it myself. That is why when they say something, I listen, and we all should.
Stop Calling Texas Fire Departments For This One Thing
There have been many storms popping off all over Texas. EMS and the Fire Department are usually very busy during these times.
Heavy downpours create hazardous road conditions. Wrecks caused by slippery roads and balding tires tie up resources.

When storms get bad, sometimes you might have a tree or a limb on a power line with branches smoking. It could be sparking, or not, or the transformer might have blown.
Don't call 911, call your local power provider. (Ex: Oncor 1-888-313-4747)
When To Call 911 During An Electrical Emergency
If there is a power line on the ground, electrifying a metal fence, on a house or a car, then call 911. Make sure not to drive or walk near the power line on the ground or near the vehicle.

Calling 911 or non-emergency numbers will not get your electricity turned on or the tree limb off the line any quicker. They call the same number to Oncor as any other customer would. Source: Lufkin Fire Department
