Will Tariffs Dim Texas’ Fourth Of July Celebrations?

Texas may see an unexpected problem when it comes to tariffs.

One would think that everyone is sick of the word "tariffs" at this point, regardless of how they feel about the intentions behind them. Most are aware and have accepted the fact that almost everything is going to cost more. You could argue that it's worth it to attempt to bring some manufacturing back to the U.S. and to "level the playing field" when it comes to international trade.

Texans May Have Some Sticker Shock

With China being hit with the highest tariffs at lot of us are already saying so long to the days of inexpensive Chinese imports. Here's a question though, what happens when not having inexpensive imports threatens our ability to celebrate being American? I'm not talking about cheap Uncle Sam hats, or made in China U.S. Flags, I'm talking about something more essential and non-replaceable, fireworks.

The U.S. imports 96% of it's fireworks from China. We are just a little less than three months out from the 4th of July, so these tariffs are likely to impact 4th Of July celebrations. I would assume that fireworks prices would have to double at the very least to make up for the money lost to tariffs. My guess is, the first thing that will go is the traditional "buy one-get one" offers at stands.

It May Be A Muted Independence Day In Texas

It's going to be pretty terrible to take on the burden of these tariffs and not be able to have the 4th Of July blowouts that we're accustomed to. I suppose time will tell how bad this hits the average Texans fireworks budget, but with the 4th less than three months away, it seems pretty likely that costs will go through the roof.
