A Texas police officer was recently arrested on serious charges of sexual assault and oppression. According to NBCDFW, 36-year-old Derreck Dean was placed on administrative leave as soon as the report was filed.

Investigators Say Officer Met Woman During Prior Call

The Arlington Police Department had to arrest one of their own for sexual assault and oppression involving woman investigators believe he met on a previous call. Dean was taken into custody last Friday by members of the Arlington Police Department’s Fugitive Unit and was transported to the Tarrant County Jail.

Back on April 18 the Arlington Police Department received a report alleging that Dean had inappropriate sexual contact with a woman he met while responding to an earlier call on duty.

The department immediately launched both criminal and administrative investigations into the report. Dean was placed on administrative leave on April 21, which was his next scheduled on-duty shift.

Police learned during their investigation that Dean responded to a call for service at the woman’s home on April 11. Between April 17 and the early hours of April 18, Dean returned to the woman’s house three separate times, including one visit during which investigators allege the sexual assault occurred.

Body-Worn Camera Footage Became Key Evidence

The APD said that Dean was on duty at the time, and none of the return trips to the woman’s house were in response to calls for service. A review of his body-worn camera shows that it was covered during all three visits.
