Former NFL Star Troy Aikman Criticizes Cowboys’ Receivers For Lackluster Performance
On the heels of the Dallas Cowboys blowout loss to the Detroit Lions, former quarterback and Hall of Famer Troy Aikman called out the team in a recent interview saying Cee Dee Lamb and the rest of the receivers are lazy.
What Exactly Did Troy Say?
In an interview with 96.7 The Ticket in Dallas, Aikman said, "I see guys lazy coming off the line of scrimmage. Sometimes they run, usually if they do, it's because they're anticipating they're going to get the football on that play, but if they're not, they don't. And it all ties together. I'm not impressed with that part of it."
He also called the route running by the receivers "terrible" and called out Cee Dee Lamb specifically saying "he needed to improve his route running."
Does Aikman Have A Point?
Statistically, Cee Dee Lamb is not having his best year, but he's not exactly horrible either. According to Pro Football Reference, Lamb ranks 12th in the NFL with 32 catches for 467 yards. With Brandin Cooks on injured reserve, tight end Jake Ferguson and wide receiver Jalen Tolbert rank 31st and 47th respectively.
Dak PrescottAs many fans pointed out, Lamb made no effort to try to break up the pass even though it was clear he knew it was about to be picked off.
That's sort of the effort we are seeing from the whole team right now. Though injuries do play a huge role in the success of a team, if there is little effort, then how do you expect to compete?
The Cowboys, who are 3-3 so far, are in a bye this week before they take on the San Francisco 49ers in a matchup that seems to be a must-win situation even this early in the season.
If there is any truth to what Aikman is saying, which I tend to agree with, then this may be a very long season for Cowboys Nation.
