Downtown Abilene is about to shine a little brighter this holiday season, and this year, the magic begins with a bear who loves honey and a garden full of beloved storybook friends. As a proud “Storybook Capital of the World,” Abilene is the only place where families can wander into a real-life Hundred Acre Wood and celebrate Christmas with Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger, Kanga, and Roo, and the whole gang.

This year’s Christmas in the Garden might just be the sweetest holiday kickoff in West Texas.

Step Into the Hundred Acre Wood, Right in Downtown Abilene

On Friday, December 5, families are invited to slip into their comfiest pajamas or favorite Winnie-the-Pooh character costumes and head to the Adamson-Spalding Storybook Garden. Both the Adamson-Spalding and the Clear Fork Bank Storybook Gardens will be glowing with Christmas lights, turning the south side of the Abilene Convention Center into a twinkling winter wonderland.

Kids can enjoy Pooh-themed crafts, games, snacks, and a magical train ride through the new Clear Fork Bank Storybook Garden. Face painting, balloon creations, and a special book reading bring the evening to life, and Chorus Abilene’s BackBeat group will perform to make the night even more memorable.

And yes… Santa will be there too, ready to hear every Christmas wish.

Meet Winnie the Pooh and All His Friends

One of the biggest highlights each year is the chance for families to take photos with their favorite characters. Rabbit, Owl, Piglet, Tigger, Kanga, and little Roo will all be there, along with Pooh himself, greeting children and posing for pictures that will warm parents’ hearts for years.

Seven and One Books will also be on-site with books and special gifts for the little readers in your life.

A Big Reveal: New Sculpture Unveiling

During the 5-6 p.m. session, the garden will unveil a brand-new bronze sculpture, a stunning addition created by artist Steve Neves. It completes the scene from Finding Winnie: The True Story of the World’s Most Famous Bear, adding Christopher Robin riding on Winnie’s back for the very first time.

This completes a piece that was partially installed during the 2022 CALF Festival and has been eagerly anticipated by local families and art lovers.

Choose Your Session & Grab Your Tickets

Families can choose between two sessions:
5-6 p.m. or 6-7 p.m.
Cost: $15 per family

Tickets are available while they last at abilenecac.org, and with about 400 people expected, they will go fast.

Why This Event Matters to Abilene

Christmas in the Garden is presented by the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council and ties into the upcoming 2026 Children’s Art + Literacy Festival, celebrating “The Art of Winnie-the-Pooh.”

As someone who’s watched Abilene grow its reputation as the Storybook Capital of the World, I can tell you: this event is more than just activities, it’s another proud moment where Abilene brings families together through art, imagination, and timeless childhood stories.
