These tiny little flies are driving me nuts. They're all over the building, and trying to swat them is nearly impossible. Have you ever tried to catch one in mid-air? Better yet, try to swat one down! The U.S. government should study these little guys and make all our military airplanes fly like gnats—we'd win every war.

One reason these pests are invading us is that the radio station has lots of plants and succulents throughout our studios and offices. These little air-speed demons have been lying in wait in the rich soil of our indoor plants.

Earlier this year, I celebrated my anniversary with the radio station. The staff gave me a card and a beautiful plant. Then, I recently celebrated my birthday and received another card and plant. So, I know where the gnats are coming from. The big question is, "How can we get rid of them FOREVER?"

Gnats are extremely annoying insects that will continue to disturb you in your garden, kitchen, and near your drains if you don’t properly treat the infestation. If you have a ton of gnats in the house, you may wonder where they come from.

These small flying bugs are found near moist and damp areas because they like to feed on decaying organic material and lay their eggs in wet soil.

Six effective home remedies to get rid of gnats:

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar Trap: Mix apple cider vinegar with a few drops of dish soap in a shallow dish. The vinegar attracts gnats, while the soap makes them sink into the liquid. Place the dish near infested areas and change the liquid daily.
  2. Lavender: Gnats dislike the strong scent of lavender. Place dried lavender sachets or essential oil near windows, doors, or infested areas to deter them.
  3. Cinnamon: Cinnamon powder has a pungent aroma that gnats find unpleasant. Sprinkle cinnamon around windowsills, doorways, or other entry points. Remember to use these scents consistently to keep gnats away!
  4. Sticky Traps: Coat a yellow sticky paper or tape with honey or petroleum jelly. Hang these traps near plants or areas where gnats are active. The sticky surface will catch the flying insects.
  5. Homemade Spray Repellent: Combine two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, half a cup of warm water, six drops of dishwashing liquid, and a tablespoon of sugar. Spray this mixture in areas where gnats congregate. The sugar lures them in, and the soapy solution traps them.
  6. Clean and Dry Areas: Thoroughly clean and dry places where gnats gather, such as kitchens and bathrooms. Dispose of overripe produce, address mold or mildew on houseplants, and keep sink drains clean.

Keep in mind, that consistency is key. Implement these methods regularly to keep those tiny flying insects at bay. Source: TreeHugger.com
