Big Country Readys for a Super Bowl of Delicious Chili This Year
The Big Country Heats Up for the 43rd Annual Ben Richey Chili Super Bowl
The Big Country is firing up the grills again for one of West Texas’ most mouthwatering traditions, the 43rd Annual Chili Super Bowl and Brisket Cook-Off benefitting the Ben Richey Boys Ranch. Set for Labor Day Weekend, August 30-31, 2025, this iconic cook-off brings the community together for two sizzling days of food, fun, and fundraising at the Old Settlers Camp Grounds in Buffalo Gap.

Where There's Smoke, There's Flavor
If you’ve ever been, you already know, this isn’t just a cook-off; it’s a full-blown Texas showdown of chili, brisket, ribs, chicken, beans, desserts, and more. Whether you're craving a Frito pie, chili dog, or just a classic bowl of red (with no beans, please!), there’s something here to satisfy every hungry Texan.
Pro tip: Get there early. That legendary chili goes fast, especially the kind made in the Biggest Chili Pot, stirred and served by the amazing Dyess We Care Team, Taylor County EMS, and local volunteers.

Competitions, Auctions, Raffles & More
Bring your appetite and your generosity, because it's not just about the food. You can vote in the People’s Choice Competition (5 votes for $1), win big in raffles, or walk away with something unique in the live and silent auctions.

Do you have something to donate, or would you like to help? My old friend G.T. Ward (who’s been doing this since we had hair and waistlines) says they still need volunteers, auction items, cook bag goodies, and bottled water. Reach GT directly at 325-669-6200 or email eaglebbq@att.net. You can also contact the Ben Richey Boys Ranch office at 325-692-2500.
Free Dance, Free Entry, Full Hearts
Admission is free, and so is the Saturday night dance, which starts at 8:30 PM. Of course, donations are encouraged and go directly to support the life-changing mission of the Ben Richey Boys Ranch, a safe place for boys in need to grow, thrive, and rebuild.
Gates open 9 AM Saturday and Sunday, so wear comfy shoes, bring the kids, and make it a weekend to remember. Whether you’re a seasoned pitmaster or just coming for the chili, your presence helps keep the spirit of this incredible cause alive.
Let’s turn up the heat and support our boys. See y’all in Buffalo Gap.
