Freddy Simon was born in 1925 and fought in WWII. Throughout his military career he earned honors like the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Marksmanship award and the Philippines service medal.

After getting out of the service, he returned to Kansas and pursued an accounting degree at Wichita University. He eventually got married and had 6 children. according to KSN. 

His sons, Bill and Randy Simon, co-founded their Frozen Custard and Steakburgers establishment in 2002 and didn't hesitate at all when choosing to name it after their father.
