Dating Advice from a Single Guy
The other day a guy asked me a simple but loaded question; is it wrong for me to want to spend time away from my girlfriend and just be with the guys?
As someone who has never been in a relationship, it's a tough question to answer, my thoughts could be completely wrong, or they could be rude. But I think from watching my friends and family's relationships, I've got it figured out.
Every relationship boils down to one thing: priorities.
What's the right amount of time to spend with someone? What's the right time to spend away? that's the wrong way to go about it. Relationships aren't about mapping out when to see each other.
All anyone wants to know is that their significant other has them as a priority.
And prepare to have your mind blown, they don't even need to be #1 on the list.
Sometimes work is getting stressful and you need to focus on that.
Sometimes a parent or friend is sick and your priority needs to be there.
Heck, you could be going through some emotional problems and you need to make yourself #1.
That is okay.
And we haven't even gotten to the part where kids come in to play.
Remember this: As long as your significant other is still on the list.
As long as your significant other knows when push comes to shove, you're going to be there. That's all that matters.
There is nothing wrong with having hobbies your significant other isn't interested in.
There is definitely something wrong with them making you feel guilty for doing those hobbies though. (That's called emotional manipulation)
So yeah, you want to hang out with the guys, go for it. Just don't be surprised when after a couple hours you find yourself missing your significant other.
Ladies, gents, put their name down on your priorities list in permanent marker.
Underline, exclamation point.
