Police were dispatched to one of the units around 1:30 a.m. for the report of an unknown problem.  When Officers arrived, they met a woman who claimed two men robbed her of her Jordan shoes and that she threw the shoes out a window.  Her story was inconsistent and the woman appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant.   Officers located the shoes on the ground below the woman’s 3-year-old child’s bedroom window.  The Child was also inside the apartment.

While investigating the alleged crime Officers noticed holes in the woman’s walls, which the woman claimed to have made in an attempt to hide her child from the robbers.  Officers also observed suspected marijuana in plain view.

Officers informed the woman, identified as Veronica Ann Arroyo, of her impending arrest and attempted to obtain information about a relative who might be available to take custody of the child.  Arroyo was unable to provide a name and   Officers subsequently called Child Protective Services.

Officers afforded Arroyo the opportunity to step outside in order to be taken into custody out of the view of her child but Arroyo refused, became combative, lunged at the Officers, grabbed one Officer’s service weapon and attempted to remove it from the holster.

Officers attempted to gain control of Arroyo but she resisted and assaulted the Officers.  Two Officers were treated at the scene by San Angelo Fire Department Medics for minor injuries they sustained in the assault.

Arroyo was transported to the Tom Green County Jail where she was booked for Class B Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, Resist Arrest Search or Transport, Assault on a Public Servant, and Attempt to Take a Weapon from an Officer.

CPS took custody of the child.
