Unlocking the Truth Rock ‘The Colbert Report’
Unlocking the Truth are already one of the metal world's favorite kid bands, but they reached an unprecedented honor yesterday by being invited onto 'The Colbert Report.' Not only were the three musicians interviewed by Colbert himself, the trio performed two songs for the Colbert Nation.
Frontman Malcolm Brickhouse, 13, bassist Alec Atkins, 13, and drummer Jarad Dawkins, 12, recently signed a huge deal with Sony. Unlocking the Truth are currently under contract for two albums with Sony worth $60,000 for the first disc and up to $350,000 for the second. An option for four more records was also included in the deal, which could push the contract's total worth to $1.7 million. Not bad for a band who were jamming on the streets of New York City just last year.
Colbert didn't go for his trademark verbal decimation when speaking to the kids, but he did draw a comparison to the band, as Colbert unlocks the truth on his program each night.
Unlocking the Truth performed the songs 'Monster' and the title track of their upcoming EP, 'Free As You Wanna Be.' Though the band is known for simply playing instrumentally, Malcolm Brickhouse confidently stepped up to the mic to deliver a vocal performance that, in all honestly, worked really well. Jarad Dawkins also contributed backup vocals during the band's extremely tight gig.
