Ubisoft: The Division’s PvP Will Be Tough To Balance
Ubisoft is so concerned about balancing out The Division that it's already focusing on it a year before the game is due to launch.
Speaking with Total Xbox, the Executive Producer of Tom Clancy's The Division, Frederick Runquist, mentions that the massive amounts of loadout and customization options that transfer from PvE to PvP are making the game's development tremendously difficult. The Division is about a special ops team going into a plague-ridden and quarantined Manhattan to search for survivors. Unfortunately, the Big Apple got really rotten over time and there are all sorts of armed, evil-doing survivors who'll attack anybody invading their turf.
"You know, since we have this seamless transition between PvE and PvP, I think it would break the immersion if, all of a sudden, your inventory would change and you'd have a gun in your hand and then it just disappears," Runquist said. "So yes, there will be a lot of balancing issues, but then on the other hand if you're playing against other players, they will have the same opportunity as you do to re-spec and meet the challenge that you represent."
The Division is going to be a giant game, we get that, but Destiny seems to have figured out how let players retain their preferred loadouts when going from PvE to PvP. Destiny's format allows for that seamless transition Ubisoft desires. At the same time, we don't know enough details about The Division's gameplay to really make a grand comparison like that.
We'll have to wait a while to find out, as The Division is scheduled to launch in 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
