The first-person horror game, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, features ghastly detective work, and now we finally know the release date.

The Astronauts have released a 13-minute gameplay demo of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, giving us an extended glimpse of what we'll be doing during our hunt for the young Ethan Carter. We see the developer solve puzzles using both old-fashioned detective work and some strange paranormal abilities. We particularly like how an item is picked up and can be examined on all sides, like that metal crank found near a riverbed in the video.

We like the ethereal popup questions about the scenery, leaving clues on what to focus on in our travels. This looks like an open game with a lot to explore. Just as long as The Vanishing provides hints as opposed to hand-holding, we're not going to have a problem with it. It looks like one hell of a mystery, and we hope that playing the game is as interesting as watching trailer has been.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter launches for PC on Sept. 25, with a PS4 version coming later this fall.
