Funcom's low-fantasy MMORPG, The Secret World, has nixed their subscriptions in favor of a "pay once, play forever" model.

That's right, MMO fans, according to the news page on the game's official site, you'll no longer have to sign up for monthly payments to play through this dark RPG set in the modern world. Well, you'll still have to pay $30 for the game up front, but those who do so before December 31, 2012 will receive all of the latest content and the Initiate Pack, which includes helpful items for beginners.

But for those who do want to pay monthly to play the game, there are still some subscription options available that offer more of the Secret World experience. Signing up for a Membership gets you these goodies:

  • Time Accelerator (Clickable item which increases experience gain for defeating monsters by 100% for 1 hour, 16 hour cool-down – only usable by Members and Grand Masters)
  • $10 worth of Bonus Points (given out every month)
  • Item-of-the-month gift (given out every month)
  • 10% discount to everything in the in-game store

And signing up as a Grand Master gives you all of the above in addition to a 10% discount in the in-game store. For this month only, Funcom's giving players 30% off on 3, 6, and 12 month plans.
