The State Health Services has issued a Syphilis Alert. The warning is mostly for people living in and around Lubbock County.

Apparently there has been 24 cases of Syphilis since the start of the year. Physicians and other medical providers are being asked to screen those at risk in the community. It's important to remember that some people can be asymptomatic which means they will not show any signs or symptoms of the infection unless tested.

Syphilis is easily treated with a shot of penicillin but if left untreated the infection can cause serious health issues. Including neurological and cardiovascular complications.
