Here is the opportunity to preserve your grandmother’s old photo album, your father’s World War II letters home, or your old home movies of downtown San Angelo in the 1950s and more.
Concho Valley residents are invited to participate in a San Angelo History Harvest at the Tom Green County Library at 33 W. Beauregard Street on Saturday, January 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

You can bring old family photos, letters, journals, home movies and videos, and other documents. Sponsoring organizations will scan the paper items onsite and immediately return the owner’s original materials, along with a free digital copy. The sponsoring organizations will also create and retain a digital copy in accordance with the owner’s approval.

Home movies and videos can be dropped off at the Tom Green County Library from January 18 through February 1, 2014. The Texas Archive of the Moving Image will digitize these materials in Austin and return them by mail to the owners, along with a digital copy.

The History Harvest will create a community collection from the area’s families to document our local, regional and national heritage. Attendees will have the opportunity to view historic films and photographs from the region at the event. The History Harvest is free and open to the public, and all ages are encouraged to attend.  Refreshments will be provided.

Sponsoring local organizations include the Tom Green County Library, the West Texas Collection at Angelo State University, the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, Fort Concho National Historic Landmark, the San Angelo Genealogical and Historical Society, the San Angelo Standard Times and Region 15 Education Service Center. Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Texas Archive of the Moving Image, will also sponsor the event.  Sponsoring institutions will provide information on opportunities to participate in the community.

Free parking is available on the street and behind the library in the City garage.  Enter and exit on Twohig between Irving and Chadbourne Streets. More parking is available behind the Edd B. Keyes building. Handicap accessible parking is located off Irving behind the library.  The Irving entrance has button-controlled doors.
