A fundraiser toward construction of a first San Angelo dog park will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday at Unidad Park, 3245 Vista Del Arroyo Drive, off College Hills Drive.
The Dog Park Walk-a-Thon will feature walks around the park trail, with a prize for the walker who completes the most laps. Participants are asked to donate $10 for the walk and are encouraged to bring their dogs. The fundraiser will also include a silent auction, a fashion show for dogs, dog photography and family-friendly music. Donations are also being accepted for pavers to memorialize or honor beloved dogs at $50 each.

An anonymous donor will match donations, up to $15,000, made through the date of the walk-a-thon.

The proposed dog park would include a fenced area for larger dogs and a separate fenced area for small dogs and would be built on City of San Angelo land, most likely as part of the larger Red Arroyo hike and bike trail project. Funds are needed for construction and for maintenance costs of the park. Construction cost estimates are $75,000 to $150,000.

The park is a Gold Award Project of Girl Scout Megan Allgeier. For more information and a “button” to make a donation through PayPal, visit the San Angelo Dog Park site on Facebook.com. Donations also can be mailed to First Experiences, 2708 Tanglewood Drive, San Angelo, 76904. Please write "Dog Park" on the memo line of your check. First Experiences, a local nonprofit, is the funds-handling entity for the dog park.
