Following the success of the 2010 and 2011 UK theater tours, ‘We Will Rock You,’ the Queen and Ben Elton musical, has announced that the show will embark on its first world arena tour to mark it’s tenth anniversary in 2013.

Armed with a couple dozen of Queen’s biggest hits, this stage production attempts to replicate the spectacle of the band’s legendary live shows, according to Brave Words Bloody Knuckles. This may be the first time a theater style production like this has made its way into arenas.

“We take the legend of Queen,” said production director Ben Elton, “and create our own fantastical story of young kids battling the mighty corporations who want to suppress their individuality and their love of music. They need a hero who can help them in their struggle, and we have two — the dreamer Galileo and the sassy rock chick Scaramouche. Guess who ends up winning?”

Not only does the production pair up Queen with Ben Elton, one of Britain’s most successful comedy writers, but Robert De Niro, who was highly impressed after attending the original workshop, also hopped on board with his Tribeca film company to become U.S. partners.

“The amazing bonus is that Ben’s script subtly works as a metaphor too.” said Queen guitarist Brian May, “People definitely come out of the theater feeling that in a strange way they now know us, Queen, and our struggle, our journey.” Thus far, the arena tour only includes UK dates, with more worldwide shows expected to follow.
