Well, it's happened. Bethesda has confirmed that it's cancelled Prey 2, the sequel to the spirit-walking first person shooter, Prey.

According to CNET, Bethesda vice president Pete Hines has confirmed that the company has cancelled Prey 2. At PAX Australia, Hines said, "It was game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be - we never saw a path to success if we finished it."

The sequel to Prey, the adventure that featured Domasi "Tommy" Tawodi fighting the aliens that abducted him, was announced in 2011. Hines also said that the reason for cancelling development was that it wasn't up to the company's quality standard, but that this doesn't mean they're done with the franchise.

Hines said, " It's a franchise we still believe we can do something with -- we just need to see what that something is."
