While the people in charge of Sony's PlayStation division haven't publicly acknowledged the controversial events of GamerGate, they have decided to display their support of women in the gaming industry in an awesome and subtle way.

The PlayStation Blog just announced a sale on the PlayStation Store for both digital games and movies. What we like about this sale is that these games and films all, for the most part, have women in leading roles, which is an awesome thing for Sony to do considering all the negative light that the gaming community has gone through as a result of GamerGate. While it's nowhere near as huge or perfect a statement on GamerGate than this letter from Polygon's Editor-in-Chief was, Sony's actions are reflective of the silent majority's support of women in the entertainment industry, whether it be in video games or movies. It's also an excellent reminder that if it weren't for hard-working, talented women and stories featuring females in the spotlight, most of these stellar projects wouldn't be here today.

While more recent games with female leads like Bayonetta, Hatsune Miku and Remember Me are all on sale, other classic games of yesteryear are available for insanely low prices. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis for $1.49? You can't even get a 12 oz. bottle of soda for that much anymore. Other noteworthy deals include Scott Pilgrim Ultimate Edition for $3.49, Resident Evil Code: Veronica X for $5.99, Portal 2 for $4.99, and BloodRayne: Betrayal for $2.49. Now what do we have to do to get Fear Effect 1-2 on the PSN, Sony?

Most of the movies on sale are still pretty pricey -- downloading the 'Resident Evil' films for $9.99 is a bit steep considering that the physical blu-ray bundle of the entire series online is cheaper than buying each one digitally through the sale, but it's still nice to see Sony rallying all these movies of female empowerment and offering it to the masses at a discounted rate..

Don't forget, spend $100 on the PSN throughout October, and you'll get $15 bucks back on your account in November.
