San Angelo, and West Texas in general, has as fickle attitude when it comes to weather. Wet years, dry years, and then really dry years are just a common part of life. However, if you are an avid gardener, we know just how frustrating that can be.

The People/Plant Connection have been hosting an educational gardening series that helps local residents learn more about gardening here in West Texas. This Saturday, May 2, is the second feature of the Talk and Tour series, and will meet at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts in the breezeway studio on 1 Love St. The series seminar will start at 9AM, and will last for about an hour. Call 325-656-3104 to reserve your spot, and the cost is $10 per person.  Refreshments and door prizes are available.

Kay Thompson, owner of Concho Natives, will discuss the benefits of using plants native to Texas in your garden, landscaping, and home. These plants can be used to replace those that may have been lost in a drought, add to what you already have, or simply help you get started. Texas natives are drought tolerant and add color and interesting textures to your garden and landscape. After her talk, there will be a caravan out to her nursery on 799 Abernathy Road, where she will give everyone a personal tour and answer any questions you might have.

People/Plant Connection Members get a discount at Concho Natives. Memberships will be available at the seminar. Free giant pumpkin and sunflower seeds will also be available for anyone who would like to enter their contest. Proceeds from these seminars go toward building the Children’s Adventure Garden under construction and scheduled to open in June 2015.
